New York Times Announces Latest Breadpig Project: The xkcd Book

The book is out – get it here!

Here’s the New York Times article.

The breadpig is thrilled to be working with xkcd on this venture and we’re expecting the book to hit the virtual shelves of the xkcd store this summer.

If you’d like to be notified, sign up for the breadpig mailing list (your information will not be sold, bartered, or used for any kind of evil). We’re not a traditional publisher, but this isn’t a traditional book — the majority of the profits from each sale will go directly to the artist (xkcd).

email:

As for the rest (as with all breadpig projects) our profits will be donated; for this project, the non-profit recipient Room to Read, a splendid organization committed to bringing quality education to children worldwide (with books!).

2008 was a great first year for breadpig, with LOLmagnetz generating a solid $15,000 for the SF SPCA and shirts selling well throughout the year. ROFLDNA got 09 off to a good start and we’re all very excited about the xkcd book.

    Thanks!
  • No plans for this to be distributed by Diamond Comics?
I own a comic shop in Scotland and know a number of customers who'd be interested in this book.
  • Thanks for the suggestion, David. I'm getting in touch with them right now.

Is it possible to just make a moneytransfer and have it send as a gift. I´d really like one here in Denmark, but it amounts to 33$ (+ most likely taxes (which you avoid by sending a gift)).
  • It could work... try emailing orders@xkcd.com with that proposal - it'll ultimately be up to them.

The book is$ 18.00 and shipping to The Netherlands is $ 15? What am I paying for, a book, or transport companies??

    Too much guys... :-(
  • ozdragonlady
    Only $15? Try $22 for Australia ...
Thank $deity for a strong AUD, at the usual rate it would be too expensive to buy.
  • Sorry about that, I've brought it up with xkcd, but the problem is that they have to factor in the cost of all the merch that somehow gets lost en route to Australia. Apparently it's a severe issue for them, so bad that the s&h price has to compensate for it.

"merch that somehow gets lost en route to Australia" ... now thats strange
because Amazon manages to get stuff delivered ok. It even arrives before
    they say it will.
*shrug* but thats what I get for living in the most isolated capital city in
    the world :)
  • Stu8080
Yeah, same to UK... xkcd is global. Dont make us pay $15 and wait 5 weeks!

EDIT: My dad needs to find XKCD, the greatest cartoon out there. I would pay the $15 shipping if it could be 4-5 DAYS!!
  • ms1234
Yeah shipping to the UK is really expensive. Has this been resolved recently?
  • There is an xkcd warehouse shipping out of N. Ireland (I believe) to serve Europe, but evidently that isn't helping either of you much. I've passed this on to the xkcd folks.
  • Goldy
I just ordered one as well, right now. I'm sure I'll love it!
  • Thanks for supporting xkcd & breadpig! You shalln't be disappointed.
  • I just ordered mine! Absolutely cannot wait :)
  • Huzzah! I must say, it looks great on the shelf between Larson & Watterson.
  • Excellent. Will get one!
  • Thanks! We're looking forward to the release - keep an eye out for it in early September (or just subscribe to our mailing list or my @kn0thing twitter).
