We want to make the world suck less. Breadpig donates all of its non-sustainable profits to organizations and individuals doing great things for the world. Think: Newman's Own for Nerds.

I've been a huge self-publishing advocate for quite a while. I started a magazine in my community that has been very successful, and I self-publish all of my own projects. I have studied book design and marketing extensively, which I recommend for those wanting to do this on their own. A badly designed book is an instant way to alienate potential readership. Thanks for the great article!

Indeed - if you've built a following online, you've already found a niche for your content. E-Books (tho I know nothing about publishing them) seem like a great place to start -- esp with the rise in portable reading devices. It does make my inner-treehugger smile a bit, too.

Self-publishing is just a great idea, period. This is the age of the net. Who needs the big publishers to skim away your profits? You don't have to print hard copies if you're worried about the environment, just create digital editions.
